Today I’m going to catch up on reading the books I’ve been putting off and finish up my homework for the week.
The class I’m taking has been easy; it’s a general humanities class where I am basically just describing art. It’s not too hard, but the reading can be time consuming.
As far as the books go, I’ve been reading The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath. I’m about halfway through. I’d never read it before, but I’ve always liked her poetry, so I figured I’d buy it. The other book that I probably won’t get to today is the second book in the Scythe series, Thunderhead, by Neal Shusterman. I read Scythe and it took me a while to finally finish it, but it was good! It had a couple interesting twists in it that kept me entertained. I’m glad there’s three books in this series because I really did like Scythe even though it took me so long to finish.
I don’t read as much as I should. I feel like that’s a problem with a lot of writers. I want to read more this year. In the last few years, I’ve only read about one book a year, whereas growing up I would read up to ten a year. And when I didn’t have any new books, I’d reread old books.
So, no new writing today besides this. It’s a homework and reading kind of day.
I created this blog in February of last year to share my writing. I started being more serious about it last December after deciding I should write more. That led to me falling back in love with poetry and writing as a whole. It also led to me writing my own personal project in my spare time, as well as changing my major to fiction writing from business marketing. But let’s be real, that major was never going to last.
That being said, I may start posting less as my classes have officially started. By “less” I mean 20% less. Maybe I’ll be posting 4-5 days a week instead of the normal 6-7. I still want to keep up with writing, but knowing how school tends to take over my entire life, it might impact it.
THAT being said, I’ll still be active on here on the days I’m not posting. I do love seeing everyone else’s posts and being a part of such a creative community. I’ll be making an effort to be online more often.
So, long story short, I’ll be posting slightly less, but (hopefully) I’ll be online every day.
You can find me on Twitter, Instagram, and support me on Ko-Fi, if you'd like!
So, I changed my major again. But this time, it’s what I’m genuinely interested in: Fiction Writing! My classes start in January and I’m excited. When I was going to the community college, I had my major as writing at first because that was the closest they had to creative writing (aka my one true love), but I changed it to a general major when I started taking classes that didn’t qualify under the writing major. But I’m excited to be back to writing!
My first few classes are just basic classes I never took at community college, so I won’t start any writing classes for a couple months, but nonetheless! It is a venture I’m excited to be making, and I finally feel confident in my major choice. It’s taken me way too long to figure out what I want to major in. I mean, I’m 22, I should’ve already graduated! But everyone goes at their own pace, so I’m not upset.
Hey, everyone! I’ve never made a real ~blog post~ here, and since this is technically a blog, I figured I’d start doing that every now and then.
I’ve been focusing a lot of my free time on writing, and with my job I don’t have a ton of free time. Plus, I’ll be going back to college starting in May, which gives me even less free time. I’ve also been dedicating a big block of my time to writing a book! I’ll get more into that later in this update, but it’s taking up a big portion of my time, so I thought my schedule needed some tweaking.
So, I’ve had this blog for about two months now, and I’ve been thinking a lot about where I want to go with it moving forward. I’ve been writing poems and short stories twice a week, and I’m thinking I want to change that up a little bit. Though I love the short stories, they take a while to make and I find it difficult with my job, school starting soon, and writing my book to make quality short stories on a weekly basis. So, I’ve decided to switch it to poems on Saturdays, a blog post on Wednesdays and whenever they’re ready, a short story on Wednesdays to replace the blog post.
So, my book:
I started writing it in January and the synopsis is a 21 year old girl who’s been baking her whole life, finally gets a job at a real bakery. It’s a slice-of-life story of her getting a crush on her coworker while also trying to rise to the rank of Head Baker. There’s ups and downs but ultimately it all comes down to one summer’s night. It is set on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, where I’ve lived my whole life.
I’ll post snippets from it from time to time, not necessarily straight from the story; sometimes it’ll just be writing exercises so I can further understand the characters.
If this story sounds interesting to you, let me know!
